The cool person who achieved this is Futuristic89, who recently obtained a world record time of 9:47 in the Capsule Guy Any% speedrun.

This is, to my knowledge, the first time a human has completed the "That's Really Fast" achievement on my official unofficial achievements list, which requires a full game completion time of under ten minutes. At the time I authored that achievement, I didn't know if it could be done.

Speedrunning amazes me. I've dabbled in speedrunning some smaller games, but I've never been able to build the level of dedication that real speedrunners have to perform impressive runs.

The Fastule Guy community, built by Hydro0 and Futuristic89, is a great microcosm of those feelings. Overall there aren't many people involved in this particular speedrunning scene, but I really enjoyed seeing the few people that are present absolutely demolish with the game over the past summer season.

When I designed Capsule Guy, I knew I wanted the game to have some speedrunning potential. Some of the game's levels were intentionally built to feature viable skips, as I showed in this very early gif of the game's prototype stage:

However, there are lots of cool skips in the game that I didn't plan for. Futuristic89 discovered this one, which I managed to perform once after attempting it about seventy times. It is hard:

It's really cool to me that this game is still seeing success over a year after its release. During the game's release period, I didn't know how fast this game could be played or if a sub-10 minute time was achievable. Now it's looking like you could get under 8:30 or even 8:00 if you played perfectly! This segmented run is a good display of what that could be like to see.

Thanks to the people over on this speedrun.com page for giving me a reason to keep my clunky toy within my everyday running memory. As a part of my first foray into serious game development, I value these people a lot :)
